[ENDED] The Season of Hoenn!

The year 2003 saw the international release of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire versions, arguably two of the greatest Pokemon games of all time. These games have proven to be especially memorable for many Pokemon players in Singapore, shaping the childhoods of many now-teenagers. As the year 2013 now approaches, we will soon celebrate the 10th anniversary of the emergence of the Hoenn Region in Singapore. As such, let us commemorate this special occasion with a lineup of Hoenn based events, pushing the Hoenn dex to its limits. Who knows, you just might find yourself a new favorite Pokemon in the process!

For all events, a special variation of the traditional Hoenn Pokedex will be used. Only Pokemon from numbers 1-202 in the Hoenn Regional Dex may be used, along with the following Pokemon:

Budew(OMG BROKEN OPPPPPP BANNN ITTTT), Roserade, Gallade, Probopass, Magnezone, Dusknoir, Chingling (lol), Rhyperior, Froslass

In addition, the following Pokemon may not be used in all the tournaments:

Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys

Standard rules with regards to Pokemon events also apply:
  • A player’s team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number
  • Each Pokémon on a player’s team can hold an item, though no two Pokémon may hold the same item
  • A player’s team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same nickname
  • A player’s team cannot contain a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon (for example, an Unfezant named “Pidove”)
  • Pokémon may only use moves that have been learned through one of the following methods:
    • By leveling up
    • By TM or HM
    • As an Egg move, through breeding
    • From a character in the game
    • A move already known by a Pokémon received at an official Pokémon event or promotion
    • A move already known by a Pokémon that has been transferred from another Pokémon game via Poké Transfer or the Relocator.
  • Players may use Pokémon with Hidden Abilities that have been officially released through the Pokémon Global Link or an official event or promotion.
  • Pokémon may not know the moves Sky Drop or Dark Void.
  • Pokemon may not hold the item Soul Dew in battle.
  • Players may use items that have been officially released via Pokémon Black Version, Pokémon White Version, Pokémon Black Version 2, Pokémon White Version 2, the Pokémon Global Link, or an official event or promotion.
  • The Wonder Launcher cannot be used during battle.

Events Lineup:

OVER – RS200 Cup V2.0 (6v6 Singles IR)

Back when Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were first released, only the 200 Hoenn Pokemon could be obtained, as the new Pokemon games were incompatible with previously released versions. As a result, competitive players in communities were forced to shape their standard 6v6 metagame to only include these 200 Pokemon, creating a unique competitive environment, much different from the current OU metagame.

How different is this metagame 10 years on? What new stars have risen with the new game mechanics in the 4th and 5th Generations? Are things like Calm Mind Absol still viable? Its time to find out! And don't forget, Rock Polish Cradily!

Note that in this event, Blaziken with its hidden ability of Speed Boost is strictly prohibited for game balance reasons.

Event will be held at E2Max, with onsite registration beginning at 2.30pm.

Prizes: For this event, Champion Eugene (Yagami) will be providing a prize for the top player. The original, authentic Rock Polish Cradily that drove Eugene to fame some time last year, whilst annoying the living hell out of Matthew Hui.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LOW WAI YIN, WHO WON THE TOURNAMENT WITH 3 WINS AND A LOSS, TAKING HOME THE ROCK POLISH CRADILY

OVER– Hoenn Doubles (Flat Battle Doubles)

Ruby and Sapphire introduced the first double battles into the Pokemon series. Doubles has evolved greatly since then, to become the battle discipline of choice for Nintendo’s official sanctioned tournaments, the VGCs. How much has the world of Double Battles evolved since then? Lets find out with this event!

Battles will follow the Flat Battle, Doubles ruleset.

Prizes:
Beldum* :steel: :psychic: Adamant Nature, Special Moves:Iron Head, Zen Headbutt
Bagon* :dragon: Modest Nature, Special Moves:Hydro Pump, Hidden Power (Flying)
Roselia* :grass: :poison: Modest Nature, Special Moves:Leaf Storm, Sleep Powder

The first placed player will be allowed to choose from one of the following Pokemon. The second placed player will be then allowed to take home one of the remaining two Pokemon, and vice versa for the third placed player.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CHAMPION EUGENE TAN, WHO WALKED WAY TOP IN THE TOURNAMENT, BRINGING HOME A SHINY ROSELIA. SHAWN TANG PLACED SECOND, BRINGING HOME A SHINY BELDUM. LOW KIT MENG PLACED THIRD, AND TOOK HOME A SHINY BAGON

OVER – Hoenn Multi Battle Tournament (IR Multi Battle)

Infrared Multi-Battles, with randomised partners determined on the day itself following registration. So essentially, you'll only need to prepare 3 Pokemon.

Possibly one of the most memorable moments in the 3rd Generation has to be the array of double battles against particularly interesting double-trainer-combos, such as Liza and Tate, and the less outstanding Abby and Ty. Throughout the region, the concept of duality remains omnipresent as well, with combinations sucg as Volbeat+Illumise, Mawile+Sableye, Plusle+Minun and even Milotic+Gyarados dominating the regional Pokedex.

It thus seems only fitting that we should celebrate this duality with a multi-battle tournament, to test trainers' abilities to coordinate with each other in battle, regardless of the adversaries faced, and partners' Pokemon. The most flexible teams, capable of handling any situation, will be emerge top in this tournament.

And more importantly, multi-battles are always fun!

4/5 Swiss Rounds will be held, depending on the amount of time available. The winning pair will then be given the opportunity to battle against Isaac and Nelson in a multi-battle following the same rules. If the challengers emerge victorious, they will obtain the right to claim the prizes, a pair of female, Shiny Sableyes with their hidden ability Prankster.

The tournament will be held at E2Max, with registration beginning at 2.30pm.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CHAMPION EUGENE TAN AND BRYAN WONG, WHO ACHIEVED A FLAWLESS STREAK OF 4 VICTORIES, AND SUCCESSFULLY BEATING THE DYNAMIC DUO ISAAC AND NELSON TO TAKE HOME THE SABLEYES. (Sorry about the mess-up with regards to the natures :s)

Events will be organised by Team Robo Video Games Admins Isaac Christopher Lam and Elite Four Nelson Lim.
