[Ongoing] 2012 VGCS Winter Battle

similar to the 2012 Spring Friendly, i thought it was rather cool to keep track of who i battled with, so here goes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Masters Division
Current Rating: 1760
Wins: 69 | Losses: 19 | Disconnects: 13 (7 during battle)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

List of Battles

14 Dec 2012
  1. Steve-O (USA), 1500. 1-0 Win
  2. Hiro (USA), 1487. 2-0 Win
  3. Kenji (Japan), 1467. 3-0 Win
  4. TEREZI (??), 1500. 2-0 Win
  5. Juanita (Columbia), 1479. DISCONNECT on selection
  6. ... (USA), 1500. 3-0 Win
  7. Matthew (??), 1500. 3-0 Win
  8. Grey (??), 1491. 3-1 Win, opponent forfeit.
  9. Kodama (Mexico), 1534. 1-3 Lose, i forfeited
    • somehow i got desperate after Whimsicott got parahaxed 2x in a row, and that led to a series of misplays which includes Taunting the opp. Cresselia which recovered with Mental Herb
  10. Alan (Mexico), 1540. 1-0 Win
  11. Alexis (Mexico), 1437. DISCONNECT in battle
  12. CodyVGC (??), 1540. 4-0 Win
  13. Night (Mexico) 1433. 0-2 Lose, BSHAX!!!!! (drop 26 points)
    • this match reminds one that if the game wants you to lose, you lose. i took the loss sitting at 1601, though it didn't really matter, since i think i already got the Custap Berry at this point in time :P. this is roughly what happened:
      • Turn 1: opp. Hydreigon Draco Meteor on 100% Rotom-W ...CRITICAL HIT!, OHKO (without critical: est. 73.4% - 90.5%)
      • Turn 2: opp. Charizard Heat Wave'd, missed Whimiscott, BUT
opp. Hydreigon (-2) Draco Meteor on 100% Whimisicott ...CRITICAL HIT!, OHKO (without critical: est. 48.5% - 57.49%)
        ...
      • Turn 4: opp. Eelektross Crunch 100% Chandelure ...CRITICAL HIT!, OHKO (without critical, estd. 73.1% - 86.23%)
  14. Bridger (??), 1500. DISCONNECT on selection
  15. A.J. (USA),1500. 2-0 Win
    • i counted 7 critical hits on both sides in this battle, which were part of many other haxes like paralysis from Tbolt
  16. Rick (UK), 1458. 1-0 Win
  17. Jade (USA), 1480. 1-0 Win
  18. Jade (USA), 1496 (rematch). 3-0 Win
  19. EVA (Canada), 1759. 1-0 Win, barely
  20. IDEN (USA), 1441. 3-0 Win
  21. Ty (Fiji), 1593. 0-2 Lose
    • my team's biggest weakness: rain.
  22. Tahir (USA), 1396. 2-0 Win
  23. Kryciel (USA), 1641. 1-3 Lose, i forfeited
    • was off to a good start when i managed to take down opp. Cresselia on the first turn. however, things went downhill when opp. Garchomp's SAND VEIL evaded what would have been a fatal blow and set up Substitute. due to my poor understanding of Substitute mechanics, i failed to realise that a better move would have been target Garchomp instead of focusing fire on its partner, only to realise that my opponent had caught on to what i was trying to do and took necessary precautions. the rest of the match played out to the opponent's favour as Garchomp swept the rest of my entire team.
  24. Nate (USA), 1500. 2-0 Win
  25. Terra (Germany), 1466. 0-2 Lose
    • i had no idea what happened here or how i lost, so it was probably because i wasn't paying attention
  26. Arjuna (Germany), 1500. 0-2 Lose
    • a manual rain team, but it is still rain. >_<
  27. Lily (Indonesia), 1469. 3-0 Win
  28. Morris (UK), 1445. 4-0 Win
  29. Rubber (Italy), 1500. 1-0 Win
  30. Lilmike (??), 1546. 2-1 Win, opponent forfeit
  31. Santi (Spain), 1457. 3-0 Win
  32. Anndhii (Mexico), 1500. 3-0 Win
  33. Alexis (??), 1473. 3-0 Win
  34. Terry (USA), 1491. 2-0 Win
  35. Surarin (??), 1708. 0-3 Lose
    • this is an interesting partial-RAIN team, with a Moltres. i think i should really do something about that rain weakness soon.
  36. Mezuky~ (Spain), 1567. 1-0 Win
  37. Demian (Argentina), 1526. 3-0 Win
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1648, 28W-6L-3DC)

15 Dec 2012
  1. Nevada (USA), 1517. DISCONNECT in battle
  2. 151 (USA), 1474. 1-0 Win
  3. Black (??), 1620. ?-? Win (wasn't paying attention)
  4. Manny (Mexico), 1442. 3-0 Win
  5. Ra (Italy), 1393. 4-0 Win
  6. Lord L (Chile), 1500. 2-0 Win
  7. Wasabi (Japan), 1500. 0-4 (Perfect) Lose
    • the famous whimsi-terra combo. not that i couldn't stop it:
      • turn 1: Whimsicott set-up tailwind, opp. Whimsicott beat up its partner, opp. Terrakion (+4) Rock Slided (but couldn't OHKO), RotomW flinched
      • turn 2: RotomW Hydro Pump miss OTL
i'm not even sure how Terrakion(+4) Rock Slide cannot OHKO RotomW, but the game decided to troll and let my Hydro Pump miss. might as well, Terrakion could have been sashed or holding King's Rock which would have caused the higher flinch rate anyway.
  8. Elenoar (??), 1510. 1-1 Lose, i forfeited
    • minimise chansey. should have brought ferrothorn
  9. Maes (Spain), 1424. DISCONNECT on selection
  10. Basheer (??), 1477. 4-0 Win
  11. Wilson (??), 1601. 2-0 Win
  12. Dave (??), 1653. 3-0 Win
  13. Sakura (??), 1765. conveniently DISCONNECTed when losing - (Metagross/Cresselia/Volcarona/Hitmontop/Rotom-W/Latios)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1686, 36W-8L-6DC)

16 Dec 2012
  1. Daniel (UK), 1458. 0-3 Lose, BS HAX!!!!!!!!! (drop 31 points)
    • this is the second ridiculous hax battle match where the game decides i have to lose. first, the opponent has a Thunder-spamming Thundurus which HITS and PARALYSES every single time he decides to fire, so my entire team was effectively crippled in speed even with Tailwind support. then, opposing Garchomp decided to be really special and fire Draco Meteors and Fire Blasts, and at the crucial moment where you really need to stop Garchomp and are really sure that the next hit would KO it, it decides TO AVOID IT WITH SAND VEIL. @!*^@&!##
  2. Lorena (??), 1390. 3-0 Win
  3. Joshi (??), 1687. 3-1 Win
  4. Carlos (??), 1484. 2-0 Win
  5. Ross (USA), 1255. 4-0 Win
  6. wet (USA), 1731. 0-2 Lose
    • i was banking on the chance that the opponent would not double Detect, but he did it anyway and it worked for him
  7. CodyVGC (??), 1665 (rematch). 4-1 Win, opponent forfeit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1691, 41W-10L-6DC)

17 Dec 2012
  1. Ash (USA), 1357. 3-0 Win
  2. Aaron (USA), 1373. 2-0 Win
  3. Aaron (USA), 1390 (rematch). 3-0 Win
  4. Nate (UK), 1619. 4-1 Win, opponent forfeit
  5. Nate (UK), 1619 (rematch). 1-0 Win
  6. C.W.B (USA), 1468. 3-0 Win
  7. Mike* (Germany), 1294. 4-0 Win
  8. Nick (Australia), 1631. 2-0 Win
  9. Chaos (??), 1717. 1-0 Win, barely
  10. Juan (USA), 1476. DISCONNECT in battle
  11. Jessica (Phillipines), 1649. 3-1 Win, opponent forfeit
  12. Jayson (USA), 1668. 0-2 Lose
    • RotomW flinched once, Chandelure flinched once.
  13. Stompy (USA), 1514. 1-0 Win
  14. koksux (USA), 1875. 0-1 Lose
    • opposing Latios avoided a Hydro Pump... and a Draco Meteor! also an oversight on my part for not considering opposing Gallade's Sp.Def.
  15. Joey (USA), 1668. 1-0 Win
  16. Joey (USA), 1677 (rematch). 0-1 Lose
    • somehow i was thinking Excadrill was Scarfed until i remembered that it had Sand Rush... oops
  17. Rob (USA), 1451. 3-0 Win
  18. Rob (USA), 1451 (rematch). 4-0 Win
  19. GOD ONE (USA), 1590. 1-0 Win
  20. Marvin (Germany), 1458. 3-0 Win
  21. Shaun (UK), 1701. 1-0 Win
  22. Nimares (Spain), 1838. DISCONNECT on selection
  23. Marcelo (Brazil), 1871. 0-2 Lose
    • the turning point was when opposing Yanmega crit RotomW with Giga Drain (non crit: 52-62%). on subsequent turns i messed up.
  24. Mikel (USA), 1434. 4-0 Win
  25. Wesley (??), 1544. 4-0 Win
  26. August (Brazil), 1494. abrupt DISCONNECTION in-between battle
  27. Jertius (??), 1549. 0-1 Lose
    • Light Screen. probably a good idea to have one of these
  28. Yann (Belgium), 1477. 4-0 Win
  29. Steve (Phillipines), 1660. 2-0 Win, barely
    • i think i would have to apologise to my opponent as on the turn which i misplayed, some hax covered it up. i went ahead to attack knowing Chandelure would be KO'ed if i did so, but it turns out the opponent's Rock Slide missed which allowed me to attack again
  30. Ethan (??), 1484. 3-0 Win
  31. Danken (??), 1444. 3-0 Win
  32. ARISAMA (??), 1602. 2-0 Win, DISCONNECTed when sending score (peaked at 1805 here)
  33. TOM (Italy), 1603. 0-1 Lose
    • opposing Tyranitar was EV'd... differently. subsequently i misplayed a little bit, but if there was any consolation in losing, it was that Salamence missed 3 rock slides in a row :p
  34. Isaac (??), 1833. 0-2 Lose
    • at the end of the match there was this crucial moment of an opposing paralysed 40% Hydreigon and a 100% Ferrothorn against my Salamence. opposing Ferrothorn wasn't being helpful to its partner, Salamence had Flamethrower, and all i needed to do was to Draco Meteor Hydreigon out of the way and Salamence could start firebreathing to secure the win. however, it turns out that the paralysed Hydreigon waddled into the blind spot of the Draco Meteor AND IT MISSED COMPLETELY!!! whatever happens next is an easy guess...
  35. Rydia (??), 1536. 3-0 Win
  36. Anthony (??), 1643. 1-0 Win
  37. Brooke(??), 1730. 0-1 Lose
    • i lost to a Scyther
  38. Yoshi (Germany), 1768. 0-1 Lose
    • on the last turn, RotomW flinched by Rock Slide, OTL
  39. MICKY (Spain), 1496. DISCONNECT on selection
  40. Jon (??), 1483. initiated DISCONNECT due to OWN TEMPO GYARADOS - (Golduck/ Politoed/ Manectric/ Rhydon/ Toxicroak/ Gyarados)
    • i disconnected on the grounds that
      • opposing Gyarados Outraged 4x in a row, but confusion animation did not activate at all (i was waiting for the confused animation to signal the end of its Outrage, but it suddenly Protected on the 5th turn),
      • no berry was activated nor any abilities were swapped during battle, and
      • Encore lasted for two turns (how in the world ?)
    • i therefore hypothesise that the match was being manipulated, and the opponent's Pokémon are not of in-game origin
  41. zz F-B zz (??), 1666. 4-1 Win opponent forfeited, then immediately DISCONNECTed - (Banette/Cresselia/Heracross/Pinsir/Amoonguss/Lv1Whimsicott)
  42. ABY (??), 1431. 4-1 Win, opponent forfeited
  43. Matthew (??), 1572. 1-0 Win
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1760, 69W-19L-13DC)

Re: [RANKINGS RELEASED] 2012 VGCS Winter Battle

Just want to say that in a tournament where TPCI cracked down extremely hard on disconnectors, causing lots of drama in other communities about disconnect-related disqualifications, it is very nice to see that so many of our players are ranked and not disqualified.

Let's keep this up and maintain a culture of good sportsmanship within our community. I find our current state highly preferable to a community full of more skillful but unscrupulous players.

This seems like a really serious competition. The Own Tempo Gyarados was REDONGULOUS!
